Dr. Ayşe Gül Kara Aydemir, Lecturer Orhan Gencel, and Prof. Dr. Başak Ağın received first place in TED University's Innovative Teaching with AI Award for their innovative approach to integrating artificial intelligence into higher education.
Developed as part of the TEDU109 course, their project, “Learning AI by Designing AI,” engaged approximately 300 first-year students across 56 teams in designing AI-powered solutions to real-world problems.
The approach positioned AI not merely as a technological tool but as an active learning partner, fostering AI literacy, creativity, critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and responsible AI use.
The learning experience culminated in the “AI in Action: TEDDY Project Festival,” where students showcased their AI-driven projects and innovative solutions.
